ABOUT US
The Towpath Chamber of Commerce, formerly known as the West Akron Board of Trade is an organization of area businesses that work together to share ideas, strategies, and services for the benefit of its membership and the business community in general.
As a community leader and one of the most progressive Chambers of Commerce in the area, our goal is to create a resource for our members to find solutions to the challenging issues that surround businesses in Northeast Ohio.
This West Akron Board of Trade was formed in the early 1930s. The original purpose was to give business owners a collective voice regarding their business concerns in the Akron area. Although this is still an objective, we have grown to include surrounding areas. We have developed into an organization that provides dynamic networking events that include informative topics that are presented by influential business leaders to help both our professional and personal growth. In 2014, we did a survey and found that the term “board of trade” is not readily recognized in today’s business world. That being said, the board of directors was tasked with preparing for a name change. Looking at the businesses that we serve, we found that most of our members are located along the Towpath stretching from Cleveland down to Dover. To that end, our new name is Towpath Chamber of Commerce.
Community involvement is an important aspect of the organization. Through our members, we support many causes that benefit those around us. We have supported Fairlawn Fire Dept. Toys for Tots, The American Heart Association, The Red Cross, The Akron Canton Regional Food Bank, Akron SCORE, Akron Fire Department, Haven of Rest, Habitat for Humanity, Summit County Humane Society, and Tunnel To Towers to name a few.
The members of the Towpath Chamber of Commerce not only receive the benefits of belonging to the organization, but also enjoy the opportunity to better serve their expanding community through the organization’s commitment to the community.
